Muriel Brodie AKA Miss Brodie
A girl who recently left her home on the family's farm near Jasper Flats to seek her fortune... or at least get out of that twenty mile radius where she's related to everyone. She enjoys the novelty of Mathog, but her limited exposure to the world until now makes her more accepting of downright surreal happenings as things as "city things" (up to a point anyway).
LIKES: independence, books, keeping a journal, exploring her new city
DISLIKES: guinea pigs, being around her family, admitting to herself that she may not be able to handle everything herself |
 |
Father Hatchett AKA Hatch
The priest of St. Gilliam's, Mathog's token Catholic church, Hatchett is excessively cheerful about everything, and particularily enthusiastic about Doing Good. He possesses a zealous devotion to the Church and occasionally takes what could be seen as extreme measures in his fight against evil. But he's remarkably tolerant and good-natured about the world, even if he doesn't entirely approve of it all.
LIKES: lots! but especially pie, holidays, philosophy, movies
DISLIKES: rent-a-cops, profanity, neckties, mayonnaise |

Kris Katsaros
Kris makes a really good spanakopita. He is technically the assistant manager of Wick Werks candle factory, but essentially he's in charge of the place. He takes his work seriously, tries to run things well, and continually struggles to balance out the animal-to-human ratio among the staff. He may have a rather questionable parentage, but doesn't like to talk about that.
LIKES: vegetarianism, yogurt
DISLIKES: worker's comp, tabloids

Waiting Tom
A vagabond of sorts, Waiting Tom is well-known throughout the city, although no one really knows precisely what he does or how he does it. A genial, if enigmatic figure, he seems to have a kind of unspecifiable authority, and often uses it to dispense aid or advice - helpful if one can decipher his desultory utterances. Anywhere but Mathog he would be regarded with a mixture of bemusement, respect, and bewilderment, but here he's just another fixture in the blase-bizarre landscape.
LIKES: Mathog, words, publications of dubious merit
DISLIKES: ??? |

Ronnie H.
Sulky teenager Ronnie works for Mister C and is currently employed at the Five Points grocery store. He is usually the employee of the month, though this is purely by default. He would like to be hardcore and threatening, but mostly just comes off as vaguely peevish.
LIKES: returning rental videos late, Mr. C (but not in that way)
DISLIKES: everything else, especially customers |

Mister C.
Mister C is an opportunistic businessman who runs a variety of profitable enterprises. The people of Mathog are most familiar with his grocery store, the Five Points, which isn't always in the same place all the time. He is rumored to have a very powerful financial backer, which may account for the exotic goods and services he so lavishly presents. Although some local merchants resent his wheeling-and-dealing, typically Mister C's friendly and ingratiating personality wins people over.
LIKES: when business is good, being in the thick of things
DISLIKES: bad business, incompetence, bad manners (which makes you wonder why he keeps Ronnie around)
